ACTIVITY CENTER at BRIGGS FARM

In 1997, NHR purchased a 64 acre parcel of land from the Trust for Public Land. The farm was donated to the Trust by George Briggs who wanted to ensure that the property would always remain open space forever.

In 1999, NHR began providing day habilitation services at its Briggs Farm location. The participants’ focus is caring for the animals, hiking and doing farm related chores. A weekend respite service is provided for children as young as nine and adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.

Project Description:

Day Habilitation and Respite have outgrown the space available. Both programs have expanded significantly during the past seven years. With the increased interest and need for such alternate programming, NHR wants to be able to respond to the demand and will need larger facilities to do so. A multi-purpose facility we are calling an Activity Center is desperately needed. All day time activities would be conducted there. This would entirely free the present respite wing for just that - weekend meals and sleeping with all day activities taking place in the new facility as well.

The Activity Center will also serve as a resource for planned community activities by youth and adult groups. This already occurs on a limited basis.

Funding Needed:

The projected cost for such a facility is estimated at $1.3 M. This is based on the architect’s renderings for a 4,715 sq. ft. facility.

Plans Include:

• A large multi-purpose area that could be sub-divided into smaller spaces.
• A music room and arts and craft room
• A full kitchen
• Staff and nursing offices
• Completely accessible
