The New Horizons Foundation’s Annual Community Leadership Breakfast was held on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at the Poughkeepsie Grand. This year Michael Graham, Roderick MacLeod, Lorraine Roberts and Gail V. Webster where chosen by past honorees to receive the Award. Each year this award is presented to those whose spirit, dedication and leadership have fostered a better life for all residents of the Hudson Valley.

Meet This Year’s Honorees

Michael H. Graham
Michael began his banking career in New York City with the Marine Midland Trust Company (now HSBC) in the 1960s and retired from it in 2007 as Vice-President and Senior Business Development Officer for M & T Bank. Michael currently serves on the Boards of The United Way of Dutchess County, the Vassar Warner Home Foundation, Dutchess Community College Foundation as Treasurer, the Lutheran Care Center at Concord Village, and the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. He also serves as a trustee for Greystone Program’s Retirement Plan. Michael serves as Treasurer of the Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation, the Board of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce and serves on Chamber committees involved with the re-vitalization of The City of Poughkeepsie’s Main Street corridor. Michael is a long term member of the Chamber and of the Lions Club of Lagrange. Michael most recently served as Chair of the United Way of Dutchess County’s 2007 annual campaign.

Lorraine M. Roberts
Lorraine taught in public schools of Bowling Green, Virginia, and Rochester, NY. She retired from Poughkeepsie City School District after 30 years in 1996. Her professional activities included NYSED Business Curriculum Development and Regents Test Question Writer, Co-chair, NYS Comm. on Standards for Career Development and Occupational Studies, Business Educators of Mid-Hudson Association, Business Teachers Association of NYS, and the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center/BOCES Regional Peer Review Committee. Lorraine’s community service is extensive: Boards of United Way, YWCA; Catharine Street Center; Friends of Greater Poughkeepsie Library District; Special Projects Committee March of Dimes; America; Girl Scouts of Dutchess County, DCC Office Technologies Committee, Dutchess Co. Historical Society, DCHS Black History Committee, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church (Historian and member of Black History Ministry), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Vassar-Warner Home Board, Kids Affected with Disabilities Board, Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill, Poughkeepsie Day School Board, MHASP, and Community Foundation of D.C.

Gail V. Webster
Executive Director of Hudson River Housing, Gail joined the organization in 1991, during which time she has guided the agency through an incredible period of growth. With Ms. Webster’s direction, the agency has accomplished the great majority of its work, increasing its annual budget from $400,000 to $7 million and increasing its staff from 3 to 135. Ms. Webster has successfully brought the issue of affordable housing in our region to the forefront of political, economic, and social justice dialogues. Ms. Webster is a graduate of Russell Sage College and received her Masters Degree in Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She has also received accreditation from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, and serves on the Boards of a number of community agencies.

Roderick J. MacLeod
Rod was raised in Wappingers Falls and is a graduate of Marist College and New York Law School. His practice is concentrated in the areas of Real Estate, Bank Lending, Fire Districts and Guardianships. Rod is counsel to the Mid-Hudson Classis of the Reformed Church in America. He is a member of the New York State and Dutchess County Bar Associations. Mr. MacLeod serves on the Board of Directors of the New Horizons Foundation, Inc. (Vice-President) and Hudson River Housing, Inc. where he is Secretary and Chairman of the Asset Management Committee. He serves on the Board of Counselors of the Children's Home, is Vice President of the Grinnell Library Board of Trustees, and Director Emeritus of Dutchess Outreach, Inc. Rod is an organist at The New Hackensack Reformed Church and a member of the American Guild of Organists. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the New Hackensack Fire District and has served his community for over thirty-five years as a volunteer firefighter with the New Hackensack Fire Company.
